P-Code can be decompiled to a somewhat-human-readable approximation of VB source code. This is good for reverse engineering though: early versions of Visual Basic compiled applications to a bytecode called P-Code instead of native code. This is an unusual choice - most multimedia software produced by Microsoft at the time was written in C/C++ or sometimes custom languages. Many of the Bob applications are written in Visual Basic. The animated characters are stored in a custom file format, which has previously been reverse engineered and reimplemented in JavaScript in the aptly named Robert.js. The DLLs included with Bob are a hodgepodge of early 90’s Microsoft technologies - OLE, Jet Red, Multimedia Viewer, WinG, as well as a bunch of custom libraries that provide the framework for Bob applications. Bob uses the Jet Red relational database to store application content and user settings. Some of the files installed with Microsoft Bobīob consists of executables for the main Bob shell and all of the applications, a lot of DLLs, and a bunch of Microsoft Access database files. I could have just unpacked the big CAB file on the CD-ROM that holds all of the installed binaries, but then I wouldn’t have had the fun of actually using Bob. I used VirtualBox to create a Windows XP virtual machine and install Bob in that instead. Unfortunately, modern 64-bit Windows won’t run 16-bit executables unless you install a replacement for NTVDM such as WineVDM. Bob is a 16-bit application designed to run on top of Windows 3.1. I started by installing Bob and having a look at what files are installed by default. I decided to set out on an egg hunt to see what I could find. Microsoft loved putting Easter eggs in their products in the 90’s, so it was quite strange that Bob didn’t seem to have one. I was surprised to find that there didn’t seem to be any documented Easter egg in Bob. The technology was also made available to third-party software developers as Microsoft Agent, which led to the development of such virtual assistants as BonziBUDDY and, well… mostly just BonziBUDDY. The product was soon discontinued but the animated character technology was integrated into Microsoft Office 97 as the Office Assistant. Despite the hype around the new “social interface”, it is estimated that only about 58,000 copies of Bob were sold. Microsoft Bob's default family room layoutīob was not a big success. It also included a set of home productivity applications to help you write letters, balance your home budget, and create lists to organise things. Bob introduced animated characters that helped to make the computing experience more social and friendly for people who hadn’t used computers before. a desk with pen and paper would represent a word processor). a living room) containing objects that represented applications (eg. We we do not have access to calibrated ballistic gelatin and therefore were unable to reproduce the test results documented by DRT on their web site. Of the bullets that we recovered were essentially unchanged except for rifling Jugs, a 9mm hole through all nine layers of OSB and a 9mm hole in the dirt. Shot into gallon jugs of water, nine layers of 7/16" oriented strand board Unfortunately, we were not able to confirm the bulletĮxpansion/fragmentation claimed by DRT. Unfortunately, we did not have a new in the box 9mm pistol on hand to test with DRT ammo. These were our personal pistols and well broken-in. Guns and Shooting Online's Gunsmithing Editor, Rocky Hays, assisted me with the shooting chores. We selected Glock 19, Beretta 90-TWO and HK-USP pistols as representative nines in which to test fire some DRT ammo. DRT also offers rifleĪmmunition in selected calibers ranging from. Other handgun calibers available from DRT include. To a consumer buying DRT 9mm ammo over the counter, it is mystery ammunition. Nor is any sort of ballistic information provided, not even the claimed muzzle velocity. These cartridges were loaded in Sellier & Bellot (S&B) brass with 124 grain bullets, although the bullet weight was not printed anywhere on the attractive white and maroon DRT box in which the ammo is packaged. DRT supplied two 50 round boxes of their standard 9mm ammunition for this review. We were asked to review a DRT ammo product and settled on the 9mm Luger (9x19mm) caliber, since we had a number of 9mm pistols on hand. Hydrostatic force, resulting in complete disintegration of the bullet's core Reversion of the core to its powdered state) is supposed to be initiated by It isĪlso claimed that the DRT bullet will disintegrate if it hits a hard metal The resulting bullet is claimed to be highly accurate. Thus the effective nuclear charge increases then the mutual shielding effect of (n-2) f electrons. The mutual shielding effect of (n-2) f electrons is very little because the shape of f-subshell is very much diffused. These two atoms contribute two electrons in the bond formation leaving behind half filled and completely filled 4 f-orbitals respectively.Ĭause of Lanthanide contraction – In lanthanides the additional electrons enters the (n-2) f orbital. Except Eu and Yb other lanthanides contribute three electrons in metallic bond formation. This is due to the difference in metallic bonding. There are two peaks one at Eu (63) and other at Yb (70). The decrease in size is regular in ions but not so regular in atoms. Inner transition elements – As we move along the lanthanide series, there is a decrease in atomic as well as ionic radius. The atomic radii of the elements of 3d transition series are as under. The atomic size from Cu to Zn slightly increases because shielding effect is more than the effective nuclear charge due to d 10 structure of Cu and Zn. The atomic size from the Fe to Ni almost remains the same because both the effects balance each other. In the first transition series the atomic size slightly decreases from Sc to Mn because effect of effective nuclear charge is stronger than the shielding effect. Thus moving from left to right in a period, there is a very small decrease in size and it may be considered that size almost remains the same. The atomic size increases due to shielding effect and balances the decrease in size due to increase in nuclear charge to about 80%. This effect of (n-1)d electrons over ns electrons is called shielding effect or screening effect. So the force of attraction between the ns electrons and the nucleus decreases. These (n-1)d electrons screen the ns electrons from the nucleus. In transition elements, electrons are filled in the (n-1)d orbitals. The atomic size first decreases due to the increase in effective nuclear charge and then becomes constant and then increases. For transition elements – There are four series of transition elementsĦd – Ac(89), Rf(104) ………….The Vander Waal’s radius of inert gases also increases on moving from top to bottom in a group. The atomic radius of inert gas (zero group) is shown largest in a period because of its Vander Waal’s radius which is generally larger than the covalent radius. For example the covalent radii of IA group elements in Å are as follows – Li Although the nuclear charge increases but its effect is negligible in comparison to the effect of increasing number of shells. (b)In a group, from top to bottom the number of shells increases. For example the covalent radii of second period elements in Å are as follows – Li (a) In a period from left to right effective nuclear charge increases because the next electron fills in the same shell. Theoretically, this thesis brings forth new comprehension of the concept of security/insecurity by analysing it in relation to its different facets, i.e. The overall contributions of this study can be outlined in terms of theoretical, empirical and methodological aspects. It highlights the centrality of the modern Turkish state in shaping the interests of and interactions between the socioeconomic actors in modern Turkish society and the economy by adopting a long historico-institutionalist perspective, beginning with the early years of republican period and ending with Turkey’s integration into the global economy. Against this background, my study investigates the institutionalisation of insecurity as a rationale in the political economy of Turkey’s industrial relations during the 20th century. And second, with an exception of a couple of years, it served as an effective tool for the political actors to steer the behaviours of labour in the direction of so-called social peace and order. First, it distributed power between actors in favour of capital and the state. The emergence of what I call the political economy of insecurity in Turkey was carried out by the generations of political actors to come and has had two far-reaching consequences in the domain of industrial relations. However, what is often overlooked in these accounts is the historical continuity of insecurity as an embedded rationale in the institutions regulating industrial relations, the roots of which can be traced back to the first steps towards industrialisation following the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. Most of the contemporary literature on Turkey’s industrial relations emphasises the impact of globalisation in bringing about fundamental institutional changes in the domain of industrial relations that have resulted in diminished capability of organised labour to act as an independent socioeconomic actor. Such restriction created long-term institutional path-dependencies in the policies governing Turkey’s industrial relations, thereby exerting a significant impact on industrial relations policy and practices in the post-1980 period. It is concluded that curtailment of work-related collective rights and freedoms for the protection of capitalist development has displayed a remarkable historical continuity as a regime of rationality in Turkey. This article explains the post-1980 institutional transformation by placing the institutional history of Turkey’s industrial relations under the optic of historical institutionalism by laying special emphasis on the dominant interests steering industrial relations and the legal and practical causal mechanisms put at work in materialisation of these interests. Regarding which, conventional wisdom cites the country’s ongoing neoliberal transformation since the early 1980s. Turkey’s current collective labour legislation places heavy restrictions on trade union, strike, and collective bargaining rights. However, it is contended that the governance of Turkey’s industrial relations under AKP leadership embodies spatially and temporally distinct characteristics integrating long-established authoritarian institutional structures and practices with neoliberal ideology, powerful political alliances, Islamic values, repressive practices and mounting resistance, thus rendering it a unique form of authoritarian neoliberalism. It is purported that AKP’s pursuit of authoritarian neoliberalism in its governance of industrial relations shares certain similarities with the emerging market economies, which have a less democratic political system. This article explains the specific path through which authoritarian neoliberalism was materialised in the governance of Turkey’s industrial relations under AKP rule. However, despite a certain degree of resemblance, countries have been following divergent paths rendering each case unique in terms of its experience. Authoritarian neoliberal governance of industrial relations is on the rise around the world, displaying remarkable similarities across countries with similar democratic political structures.
